Importing the users, computers and printers defined in your Windows
domain
Using the menu item “Tools > Update users and
computers list…”, you can manually perform the tasks of importing the various
users, computers and printers defined in your Windows domain. You need only to
specify the user name, password, domain name and protocol.
You may thus update the information pertaining to your
computer equipment at any moment.

You
do not need to have administrative rights in order to run this application. Running
the application has no impact on your domain. |
Importing users

List of fields imported from Windows NT:
o
First and last names
o
Title
o
Windows user name

List of fields imported from Active Directory (AD):
o
First name
o
Last name
o
Email
o
Title
o
Office phone number
o
Cell phone number
o
Windows user name

When you delete or deactivate a
user in your domain, you must also deactivate that user in Octopus.
Importing computers and printers

Importing printers is only possible
in AD.
·
If you rename a computer in your
domain or retire it, you must also rename it or retire it in Octopus.
To retire
a CI in Octopus, simply set the CI’s
status to “Retired”.

In
order to maintain the list of users, computers and printers up to date, you
must run the application on a regular basis. Use
the Windows task manager (Windows Scheduler) to automate the execution of the
application. See the Procedures
