Automating the deployment of WMI on Windows 95, 98 and NT 4.0
workstations
Here is the procedure to automate the deployment of
WMI on Windows 95, 98 and NT 4.0 workstations:
1.
Download the script from the
following address: http://www.octopus-itsm.com/tools/wmi_install.zip
2.
Download the WMI Core installation
kit from the following address: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=afe41f46-e213-4cbf-9c5b-fbf236e0e875&DisplayLang=en
3.
Copy all files from the zip archive
into a directory which you will name “C:\wmi_install”.
4.
Copy the “wmicore.exe” file into
that same directory.
5.
Create a file called
“ComputerList.txt”, still within the same directory. This file contains the
list of computers to be installed.
An example file is provided in the script
downloaded during step 1.
6.
Execute the script with a user
having the appropriate rights on the computers upon which you want to install
WMI, an administrator domain for instance.
Suggestion: Begin with a reduced list of computers, 2
to 5 stations; it will thus be easier to ensure yourself of the well
functioning of the script. Afterwards, when ensured of the script’s well
functioning, you may use the complete list.
