CI Type Management

CI types and their features are configured in the reference data management form.

Form location is in the Menu “Tools > Reference Data Management”.

There, we can add, edit or delete CI types.

· To add a CI TYPE,

1. open the + of CI,
2. open the + of Types,
3. select Types, right-click on it and select “Add”.

· To delete a Type, select it, right-click on it and select “Delete”.

It is not possible to remove the following CI types, their relations and their attributes:

• Workstations
• Laptops
• Servers
• Printers
• Softwares

Each CI type contains the following fields:

• Description: The English and French descriptions are modifiable; it identifies the CI type.

• Favorite: if the « Favorite » box is checked, the CI type will be visible at the top left of the Configuration module list. The position of the Favourite can also be chosen. If the Favorites box is not checked, the CI type will be displayed only in the drop down list.

• Relations: creation of the relations between that CI type and other CI types.

• Attributes: creation of the CI attributes for each CI type.

• Categories: creation of the CI categories for each CI type.

Example: creation of a new CI type  à Network card

First, we add the new type, we enter the description in French and English, we check the Favorite box, we select the rank no 4 (we want that type to be in the fourth place in the main list of CI types).

Relations

In the Relations tab, we click on ADD to create a new relation with the network card.

Then we define the relation type and the CI Type for the relation.

Relations between CI appear in the CI form.

In the example, the relation « Is installed on » was defined between Network card and Laptop.

In the CI Network card form, we would be able to create a relation with a laptop.

A new icon is used to describe new CI types.

Attributes

In the Attributes tab, we use the button ADD to define the attribute « IP Address » for the CI type ‘Network card’.

Categories

In the Categories tab, we add different kinds of Network cards (Wireless OR cable connexions).

The category field is displayed in the CI form. Click here for more information about the CI form.

When all the features are made, we SAVE (with the disk icon) and close the window. We must restart the application to make the changes visible.
